A New Legend of Zelda Remake or Remaster in 2024 Would Be an Obvious Decision

The Switch Could Receive Another Zelda Remake Before Its Successor is Released in 2025

**Highlights

Before the launch of its successor in 2025, the Switch could receive another remake of Zelda, filling gaps in the schedule of major releases with classic titles.
Nintendo plans to release a remastered Zelda game in 2024 to extend the Switch's lifespan, following the trend of major game releases in the Zelda series.
Likely candidates for a Switch release in 2024 include Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

The Legend of Zelda series has had a significant presence on the Nintendo Switch, which is no surprise considering the importance of the franchise for Nintendo. Titles such as Breath of the Wild, Link's Awakening, Skyward Sword HD and, most recently, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, have proved to be some of the most popular releases for the console. However, there is still room for one more release in the series on the Switch, and with the console's life cycle drawing to a close, this is the perfect time for another Zelda remake or remaster to enrich the Switch's excellent library.

Although Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed it, rumors suggest that the company plans to launch the Switch's successor in early 2025. So it makes sense that the Switch will see fewer major releases this year, with Nintendo probably preparing the Switch 2 to have more exciting titles ready for its launch. To fill this gap in major releases, Nintendo seems to be focusing on remakes and remasters of classic titles, such as Super Mario RPG and the upcoming Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, so the Zelda franchise could easily see another release before the next console arrives.

**A Zelda Remake or Remaster Could Enrich the Switch's Final Year Schedule**

Despite releasing Tears of the Kingdom in 2023, Nintendo could bolster its 2024 schedule with another Zelda game and help extend the Switch's lifespan until its successor is ready for release. Nintendo has followed the trend of releasing a main Zelda game on the Switch every two years, starting with Breath of the Wild in 2017, followed by Link's Awakening in 2019, Skyward Sword HD in 2021 and Tears of the Kingdom in 2023. While this may disqualify 2024 from seeing a new Zelda release, it's possible that a remastered entry in the franchise could be viable for release in such a short space of time.

Nintendo currently seems to be without a major release for the 2024 holiday season, now that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has a confirmed release date for May 23 and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for June 27. Nintendo is rumored to be planning to release the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4 later this year, which would be a fitting farewell for the Switch. However, the company may want to keep it as a launch title for Switch 2, making room for something like a remastered Zelda game to fill that end-of-year release gap.

**Zelda games that would be perfect for a Remake or Remaster in 2024**

The Zelda series has many great candidates for a remake or remaster, and the diversity between the different eras of the franchise means that all of them are likely to appeal to a wide range of audiences. Remaking a game in the cute, clay-like art style of the Link's Awakening remake for the Switch would be perfect for other classic portable entries, such as Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons from the Game Boy Color, or Minish Cap from the Game Boy Advance. Although they've already been remastered on the 3DS, HD versions of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask would also be very welcome additions to the Switch library.

However, the most likely candidates to see a release on the Switch in 2024 are Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, as they have been rumored to be coming to the Switch for some time. Both titles have been remastered for the Wii U, and with the amount of Wii U games Nintendo has ported to the Switch, they seem like obvious omissions that many fans believe deserve to make it to the console. The remastering work has already been done, so it wouldn't take much to prepare them for a Switch release, and Nintendo could even bundle them together, as it did with the Super Mario 3D All-Stars compilation.
