Ministry of Health extends dengue vaccination to 625 municipalities, including 101 cities in Paraná
The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday (25) an important expansion of vaccination against dengue in various regions of Paraná. A total of 625 municipalities will benefit, including 101 cities in Paraná. The age group for immunization is children aged 10 to 14.
This expansion was made possible thanks to the release of the Ministry of Health's Technical Note No. 47/2024, which provides for the distribution of a further 986,548 doses of the vaccine, 166,740 of which are destined for Paraná. With the arrival of these new doses, it will be possible to start vaccination in regions such as Paranaguá, Cascavel, Umuarama, Maringá and Toledo.
To date, the state has received 41,754 Qdenga vaccines, produced by the pharmaceutical company Takeda. With the inclusion of these new regions, Paraná now has a total of 148 municipalities receiving the vaccine, which represents around 37% in the state.
The Secretary of State for Health, Beto Preto, stressed the importance of expanding vaccination in the fight against dengue, which is a constant concern in Paraná. According to the latest bulletin from the State Health Department, 519,252 notifications, 260,517 confirmed cases and 171 deaths have been recorded in the state.
The doses were distributed to the municipalities based on criteria such as the ranking of the health regions, the quantity of doses needed and the calculation of the total to be delivered to each location. The expectation is that the arrival of the new vaccines will contribute significantly to protecting the population of Paraná against dengue.
