"Revelations and Spoilers: Photos from the set of Marvel's 'Daredevil: Born Again'"
Warning! This article may contain possible SPOILERS for "Daredevil: Born Again".
Summary
"Daredevil: Born Again" will introduce the character White Tiger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), although it is not yet clear whether it will be Ava or Hector Ayala (or both) who will take on the role. Foggy Nelson and Karen Page will also return, confirming the reunion of the iconic legal team in the next series. Wilson Fisk's campaign for mayor will play a significant role, reflecting his arc in the comics, which will probably show divided public opinion, along with a renewed rivalry with Daredevil.
Marvel Studios' "Daredevil: Born Again" is currently in production, with Charlie Cox reprising his role as Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, both returning from their roles in Netflix's original Daredevil series. Several photos from the set have been released online, revealing the return of several actors and possible new characters. These images have generated a lot of excitement for the upcoming MCU show.
The original Daredevil series ran for three seasons on Netflix, along with other shows like Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. All the heroes met in "The Defenders", and "The Punisher" was a spin-off from the second season of Daredevil. Although all the shows were canceled in 2019, Cox's Daredevil and D'Onofrio's Kingpin have made appearances in more recent MCU projects. Now, the upcoming series "Daredevil: Born Again" will continue this rivalry, while likely integrating the previous Netflix shows into the MCU canon to a greater degree. Here's everything that's been revealed in the photos from the set of "Daredevil: Born Again" (so far).
13. New Marvel character (White Tiger): Will there be more than one?
Some of the first photos from the set of "Daredevil: Born Again" have revealed that the series will introduce the character White Tiger into the MCU. The White Tiger is a classic Marvel vigilante, most commonly associated with Ava Ayala, who inherited the tiger amulet from her brother Hector. The photos revealed a White Tiger whose face was covered by a helmet, so it's unclear whether the MCU's White Tiger will be Hector or Ava (or perhaps both).
12. Foggy Nelson and Karen Page return: The complete trio returns
Following reports that they have signed a contract to return, photos from the set have confirmed that Foggy Nelsen, played by Elden Henson, and Karen Page, played by Deborah Ann Woll, will return for the Netflix original series "Daredevil: Born Again". In the photos, Foggy and Karen are seen walking down the street with Matt Murdock. This confirms that the classic legal team and trio of friends will be back in action in the next MCU series.
11. Kingpin's mayoral campaign: Fisk is running to become the next mayor of New York
Having been introduced in the post-credits scene of "Echo", Kingpin has plans to run for mayor of New York, and his campaign is confirmed to take place in "Daredevil: Born Again", according to set photos. This storyline will probably mirror the Kingpin's big arc in the comics, where he also ran for and won election, using his new position to turn the city against vigilantism.
10. Daredevil and Kingpin reunion: The Square Dinner
"Daredevil: Born Again" will feature a dynamic reunion of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. Seen at Tribeca's Square Diner, which was used in seasons 1 and 2 of Daredevil, Murdock is surprisingly shown sitting at a table facing the Kingpin himself, suggesting some kind of temporary negotiation.
9. Matt Murdock's new law firms: Nelson, Murdock and Page
The photos of Matt Murdock, Foggy and Karen also show their new law offices. As seen in the final episode of Daredevil season 3, Murdock reconciles his friendship with Foggy and Karen. To this end, Foggy has devised a new name for his law firm, which will apparently be realized in "Daredevil: Born Again" with the law firms "Nelson, Murdock & Page".
8. Teases for Daredevil's new villain: Muse: A deadly and dangerous artist
Photos and videos from the set also teased the debut of Muse in the MCU, a Daredevil villain who has been featured in more recent comics. A superhuman artist who paints with the blood of his victims, Muse is a perfect contrast for Daredevil, given his ability to extract all the sensory information close to him. The photos reveal a mural in New York signed by none other than someone called Muse.
7. Graffiti provokes a New York divided by the Kingpin: will Fisk sway enough voters?
The mural in question is of the Kingpin himself, one side depicting him as an angel from heaven, while the other sees him as a demon. This suggests a split in public opinion about Wilson Fisk and his aspirations to become mayor of New York. As such, one can imagine that Fisk will do anything to sway the public in his favor.
6. A new romance for Matt Murdock: Possibly Kirsten McDuffie
With Matt Murdock and Karen Page apparently deciding to be just friends at the end of Daredevil's third season, new photos from the set show Charlie Cox's character kissing actress Margarita Levieva in a currently unknown role. However, the implication is that she is Daredevil's new love interest. To that end, Levieva may play Kirsten McDuffie, an assistant district attorney who falls in love with Murdock in the comics.
5. A possible return of Brett Mahoney: A great ally for Daredevil
Photos from the set of "Daredevil: Born Again" have teased the inclusion of a character called Brett. This could well be Detective Brett Mahoney from previous Netflix shows, having made appearances in Daredevil, Defenders and The Punisher as a good, honest cop who worked with Murdock and Daredevil to take down Kingpin, one of the few cops who wasn't corrupted by Fisk himself and ended up being promoted to detective at the end of the Defenders saga.
4. Bullseye's new suit: Not yet accurate in comics
Photos from the set of "Daredevil: Born Again" have also revealed Bullseye actor Wilson Bethel wearing a completely new costume. Wearing a purple and black balaclava and tactical gear, Bullseye is armed to the teeth and in a video that shows him throwing grenades and wielding a silenced pistol before Daredevil attacks him. This new iteration of Bullseye's costume looks like a more recent version of Marvel Comics artist Marco Checcetto's Bullseye, as opposed to the more classic black and white suit with the target symbol on the forehead.
3. Daredevil's new costume: Brighter and back to red
Charlie Cox was also spotted wearing a new version of Daredevil's classic red and black suit from the Netflix era, as opposed to his most recent appearance in the MCU in "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law". In "She-Hulk", Matt Murdock wore a new yellow and red version of his suit and horned helmet, a tribute to the character's first appearance in the comics. Instead, this new costume appears to be a brighter red than the one seen in the Netflix series, along with black details.
2. A return to Josie's bar: A classic location from Netflix's Daredevil
Photos and videos from the set also confirmed the return of Josie's Bar, a recurring location in Hell's Kitchen from the Netflix shows that was often visited by Matt Murdock along with Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. It seems that there will be a scene in which Foggy and Karen will be inside the bar while Daredevil fights Bullseye on the street outside. Although it's pure conjecture just from the set images, it looks like this could well be a major confrontation that could have disastrous consequences for Matt Murdock and those he cares about.
1. The Return of the Punisher: Jon Bernthal's Punisher series ended in 2019
Set photos from "Daredevil: Born Again" revealed the Punisher's MCU costume and showed a preview of his reunion with Charlie Cox's Daredevil in the show. Frank Castle actor Jon Bernthal also provided his own more direct teaser for the show, via a behind-the-scenes photo on the set of the show, with him posing alongside Instagram user @littlepandapit. Notably, the set photos shared by @SplashNews appear to show a police officer wearing the Punisher logo, which seems to tease a storyline for the Punisher himself.
"Daredevil: Born Again" is currently in production and should be released in 2025.
Following Charlie Cox's appearance in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and supporting role in "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law", "Daredevil: Born Again" gives Matt Murdock his first show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Daredevil: Born Again", consisting of 18 episodes, serves as the spiritual successor to the three-season Netflix series "Daredevil" and adapts its characters to the main continuity of the MCU while establishing a new beginning for the superhero lawyer.
