Explanation of the Bobbit Worm in Another Crab's Treasure

Another Crab's Treasure

The ocean is home to countless terrifying creatures, but few are as frightening as the Bobbit Worm. This sinister predator lurks beneath the sand, ready to devour fish, coral and more with its powerful jaws. He becomes a terrifying enemy in the Souls-style underwater game Another Crab's Treasure, a feature that the developers have exploited to the full. Aggro Crab, the game's developer, has reimagined the Bobbit Worm from Another Crab's Treasure as a challenging Dark Souls-style enemy for protagonist Kril to face.

In a recent conversation with Nick Kaman, studio head and art director, and Caelan Pollock, creative director and narrative lead, they discussed the decision to include the Bobbit Worm as an enemy in Another Crab's Treasure and how Kril can use its abilities as one of his Adaptation techniques. Pollock commented: "It fits very well as a Dark Souls enemy. He's simply a nightmarish creature coming to kill you."

### What is a Bobbit Worm?

The Bobbit Worm, also known as Eunice aphroditois, is a worm that inhabits salty waters. It burrows into sand or holes in rocks, where it uses its antennae to detect prey. Once it detects prey, the worm can use its powerful jaws to quickly capture and devour its target. It feeds on various types of fish, corals and creatures that live on the seabed, but can also eat algae if there is no other option available. Bobbit worms are mainly found in the Atlantic Ocean and the Indo-Pacific. The name comes from the infamous killer Lorena Bobbitt, as female Bobbit worms remove the genitals of their partners and feed them to their young.

In recent years, some aquariums and private pond owners have discovered that their habitats have been invaded by Bobbit Worms, which hide in small crevices in rocks and come out at night to eat nearby fish and other organisms. They are extremely difficult to kill, as they can regenerate if split in half. One infamous Bobbit Worm, documented on the Michigan Reefers forum, lived for several weeks in a private tank despite being repeatedly fed glue, ground glass and various dewormers.

### The Bobbit Worm is a Fearsome Enemy in Another Crab's Treasure

In Another Crab's Treasure, the Bobbit Worm is one of the many enemies Kril faces on his underwater journey. After defeating it, he can absorb its powers using "Umami", the mystical life force that runs through all sea creatures. The Bobbit Worm is one of the many creatures that can grant Kril an Adaptation power, along with the mantis shrimp, the electric eel and many others. The Bobbit Worm's Adaptation has not yet been revealed, but teasers suggest that it involves "trapping" the enemy in some way.

Pollock described the Bobbit Worm as "one of the easiest creatures" to translate into the game. While Pollock and Kaman debated which sea creatures to add to the game, and ended up excluding several, the terrible worm was a sure choice. As Pollock said, by translating the creatures' abilities into in-game abilities, the Bobbit Worm is as straightforward as possible. You watch a video of what the Bobbit Worm is and what it does, and it's like, yeah, sure, that's exactly a Dark Souls enemy.

Dark Souls and other Souls-style games are known for their gruesome and powerful enemies, from the Consumed King of Dark Souls 3 to the Excrement Eater of Elden Ring. Despite Another Crab's Treasure's bright and colorful aesthetic, its version of the Bobbit Worm seems destined to join this pantheon when the game is released on April 25. Even the most hardened veterans of Souls-style games may shudder with fear when this creature emerges from the sea bed to challenge them.

Another Crab's Treasure by Aggro Crab offers a seafaring twist on the Souls-like formula. Using the garbage around him as armor and weapons, Kril must travel through an underwater kingdom while facing all kinds of impressive threats.
