High demand for care for suspected dengue fever in Jundiaí
Jundiaí registers high demand for care for suspected dengue fever
On Saturday (27), the city of Jundiaí recorded a high demand for services exclusively for people with symptoms of dengue. The Basic Health Units Tamoio and Nova UBS Jardim do Lago were open from 8am to 5pm, with the gates closing at 4pm.
Seamstress Silvana Scarabello, who had been suffering from body aches, headaches and eye pain since Thursday, was tested and found to be negative. However, she returned to the UBS to take the rapid test. "Even though my test was negative, the doctor thought it would be better for me to take the rapid test to clear up any doubts and start the appropriate treatment," said Silvana.
Another patient, attendant Noêmia Rodrigues, also sought care at the UBS due to the symptoms she had been experiencing since Thursday. Her son Ângelo Gabriel, 10, also had the same symptoms. After the negative test result, Noêmia decided to seek medical help to investigate the cause of the symptoms.
During the day, 201 blood samples were taken, 87 rapid tests were carried out and 54 new cases of the disease were diagnosed. The manager of the City Hall Health Unit, Tiago Texera, warned the population: "The scenario is still worrying, we are seeing many cases a day. If you have symptoms, see a doctor and don't let your guard down. You can't be too careful, use repellent, don't leave standing water and together we'll get out of this situation".
The main symptoms of dengue fever include fever, headache, body and joint pain, skin spots, eye pain, weakness and vomiting. Warning signs that indicate a more serious course of the disease are severe abdominal pain, nausea, persistent vomiting and bleeding from the mucous membranes.
The demand for care at the Jardim do Lago and Tamoio UBSs was intense, demonstrating the population's concern about the disease. It is important that anyone showing symptoms of dengue seek medical attention immediately.
