New Volkswagen Passat Pro: exclusive to the Chinese market and no plans for Brazil
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has released images of the new Volkswagen Passat Pro, a sedan exclusively for the Asian market. With five trim versions and a combustion engine, the model promises to succeed the old Passat by the end of this year. With a modern look and based on the MQB Evo platform, the Passat Pro features details such as LED headlights, wheels up to 19 inches and rear lights interconnected by a trim. Inside, not many details have yet been revealed, but it is speculated that it will follow the Passat Variant pattern, with a digital instrument panel and floating multimedia center.
However, the big surprise is under the hood, as the Chinese Passat Pro has opted for combustion engines, leaving electrification aside. With a choice of a 160 hp 1.5 turbo engine and a 220 hp 2.0 turbo engine, both powered by gasoline, the sedan has a DSG dual-clutch gearbox and front-wheel drive. It is expected to make its debut in China at the end of the year, but both Europe and Brazil are unlikely to receive the model, due to the public's lack of interest in mid-sized sedans to the detriment of SUVs.
While the automotive market continues to evolve, the Volkswagen Passat Pro promises to be an interesting option for Chinese consumers looking for a sophisticated and powerful sedan. Keep up to date with the latest news from the automotive world.
