Last week, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that the first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux would arrive today, just six months before the film is released in theaters. The studio also released a poster featuring Phoenix's Arthur Fleck and Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn dancing in anticipation of a scene featured in the trailer.
What The Joker: Folie à Deux Trailer reveals about the sequel
Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn is very different from any other version
The trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux explores the current life of Arthur, now a patient at Arkham Asylum. However, Arkham Asylum clearly isn't going to keep him locked up as the footage addresses his return to the public eye, with more support for the Joker than ever before. Similar to the first Joker movie, there definitely seems to be a political element, as many citizens of Gotham City are divided over Arthur's Joker persona and whether he should be released.
Joker: Folie à Deux already looks like it will be something unique in the growing comic book movie scene.
With much mystery surrounding Lady Gaga's Harley, the trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux finally gives a better idea of how they're approaching the iconic character compared to Margot Robbie's iteration in the DCEU movie timeline. Instead of being his psychiatrist, Harley is also an inmate at Arkham Asylum, which at least maintains the connection they build through the institution. Overall, there are many moments that show his chaotic energy that will be felt throughout Joker: Folie à Deux, from committing crimes to some of his musical provocations.
The only song featured in the trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux is "What the World Needs Now Is Love", probably indicating that it will be one of the songs played in the movie. It wouldn't be shocking if the second trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux ended up leaning more towards the musical numbers to give the audience a better idea of how this element plays out in the story. Although only a teaser trailer has been released, Joker: Folie à Deux already looks like it will be something unique in the growing comic book movie scene.
