Senator proposes tax exemption for electromobility amid tax increase
Senator proposes tax exemption for electromobility and criticizes tax increase
Senator Oriovisto Guimarães (Podemos-PR) made a statement in plenary on Tuesday (9) questioning the increase in taxes and proposing an exemption for electromobility. He criticized the effects of Law 14.789 of 2023, which came into force at the beginning of the year and imposes new rules for the taxation of tax benefits, as well as modifying the rules for deducting interest on equity.
According to the senator, the new law will result in a significant increase in revenue, estimated at R$ 35 billion for this year. However, he warned that "when the government collects more, someone pays the bill".
Oriovisto highlighted the direct impact on municipal investments, citing the example of Curitiba (PR), where the municipality planned to renew the city's bus fleet with electric models. However, due to the increase in costs caused by the new legislation, the project was increased by R$ 400 million, an amount that the municipality does not have.
The senator highlighted the contradiction between Brazil's environmental objectives and the reality of a tax burden that favors pollution and compromises public health. He said he is introducing a bill to exempt electromobility from these taxes, with the aim of promoting public transport and improving the quality of life of people who depend on this means of transportation on a daily basis.
With this proposal, Oriovisto Guimarães seeks to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles and contribute to reducing pollution and promoting public health in the country. The discussion on tax exemption for electromobility promises to be a relevant topic in the upcoming debates in the Senate.
